Our readers find that screenshots and in-depth guides help them to follow the process more accurately. So please continue reading to learn how to make parallel lines in Visio using a visual guide.

The process here will work for both the desktop version of Microsoft Visio and the web version. In this example, I am using the web version of Microsoft Visio. However, if you have the desktop application installed, you can use the app instead.

  • You now need to open one of your charts.

You will need to select the one that will hold the parallel lines from the list of available chats you have created.

  • Click on the option for “View.”

In the ribbon at the top menu, there will be a list of options available for you to choose from. Here, click on the option for View, and then you can access content such as how you like to view the canvas.

  • Now you need to check the box that says “Page Breaks.”

From the list of available options in the View section, you will need to click on the one called Page Breaks. The program will instantly add a series of guidelines to your canvas.

Page breaks will add a 5-millimeter border around your document and lines running horizontally and vertically through the center. You can use those guides to create parallel lines.

  • Click on the option for “Insert.”

Now that you have your page guidelines, you will need to go into the Insert section, where you must draw a parallel line with the page break lines.

  • Click on the dropdown under “Draw Shape.”

Here you will need to click on the option for Draw Shape, and there you will be able to pick from the list of different available shapes Visio has provided.

  • Choose “Line” from the selection of shapes.

The Line option will allow you to drag the cursor from one point where the line begins to the point where the line ends.

  • Now draw a line along the page break guides.

Place your cursor on the start line and then drag it down along the page break guideline, and this will automatically create a vertical line parallel with the canvas.

  • After that, press the control key while dragging the shape to create a duplicate.

The final stage of the process is to duplicate this line to create your parallel set of lines. First, click on the shape, press the control key, and then you will be able to drag the line shape to create a duplicate. The duplicate shape will align with the guides, giving you a set of parallel lines.
